Modular Wall Strength: Can They Stand the Test of Time?
Posted by Kate Murphy on May 27th 2026
How Strong Are Modular Walls?
At first glance, modular walls are often underestimated. Because they can be installed quickly, moved easily, and reconfigured without construction, many people assume they are temporary solutions — not built to last. But modern modular wall systems are designed for far more than short-term use.
From busy offices and schools to warehouses, healthcare spaces, and trade show environments, modular walls are designed to handle constant movement, daily wear, and evolving layouts without sacrificing strength or stability. Systems like EverPanel® modular walls and EverBlock® building blocks combine the durability organizations need with a level of flexibility traditional construction simply can’t offer.
Here’s a closer look at the materials, engineering, and structural design that make EverBlock® and EverPanel® systems built to last.
What Makes Our Modular Walls Durable?
From structural integrity to long-term reusability, several factors contribute to the durability and performance of modern modular wall systems.
Core Strength & Structural Integrity
Strong modular walls start with strong materials. EverBlock® modular blocks are engineered using high-impact #5 polypropylene plastic combined with specialized “no-break” co-polymers that help improve strength and flexibility under pressure. Polypropylene is commonly used in commercial and industrial applications because it is lightweight, durable, and highly resistant to cracking or breaking during normal use. Unlike brittle plastics that can chip or fracture under stress, EverBlock® materials are designed to absorb impact and maintain structural integrity even in busy environments with constant movement and reconfiguration.
The blocks are also self-supporting when assembled properly, meaning the structure itself helps distribute weight and maintain stability without relying on permanent construction. Added UV inhibitors help protect the material from fading, discoloration, and long-term degradation caused by sunlight.
EverPanel® walls use a multi-layer engineered panel system designed for stability, rigidity, and long-term commercial performance. At the core of the system is a patented injection-molded ABS thermoplastic frame. ABS plastic is widely used in products that require both strength and toughness because it combines rigidity with impact resistance. The frame also contains additives that help improve fire resistance, smoke reduction, UV stability, and overall durability.
That internal frame is then bonded and chemically welded to outer wall surfaces, creating a more rigid, reinforced structure. Depending on the application, EverPanel® systems may use fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) panels or compressed PET acoustic cladding as the exterior finish. FRP adds moisture, scratch, and impact resistance while maintaining a lightweight structure. Compressed PET cladding provides additional durability and sound absorption for acoustic applications.
Longevity and Reusability: A Long-Term Investment
Durability is measured not only by strength, but by how well a system continues to perform after years of repeated use and reconfiguration. Unlike traditional construction materials that are often demolished when layouts change, modular systems are designed to adapt and be reused over time.
Both systems use commercial-grade materials chosen for their long-term performance and resistance to cracking, moisture, dents, corrosion, and everyday wear. High-impact polypropylene, ABS thermoplastics, FRP panels, and compressed PET materials are all known for their resistance to cracking, moisture, corrosion, dents, and everyday wear.
One of the clearest signs of durability is the ability to be repeatedly assembled, disassembled, moved, and reconfigured without sacrificing structural integrity. EverBlock® and EverPanel® systems have been engineered for years upon years of continued commercial use, helping organizations create flexible spaces without constant rebuilding or replacement.
Durability Against Environmental Factors & Wear
Modular walls need to withstand more than just everyday impact. Busy commercial spaces also expose materials to moisture, humidity, stains, scratches, chemicals, and constant cleaning. EverBlock® and EverPanel® systems are designed with these conditions in mind.
Both systems feature non-porous, water- and chemical-resistant surfaces that help resist moisture, mildew, stains, dents, and scratches while remaining easy to clean and maintain. EverBlocks® also include UV inhibitors to help reduce fading and material degradation in outdoor or sun-exposed environments.
Standard EverPanel® systems with FRP cladding feature waterproof surfaces designed primarily for indoor or protected-use applications. For projects requiring additional water resistance, seams between panels can also be sealed to help reduce water penetration.
EverBlock® SoundSorb™ panels are designed for long-term durability as well. In addition to providing acoustic benefits, the compressed PET material is mold- and moisture-resistant, helping the panels maintain both their appearance and performance over time.
Safety, Fire, & Acoustic Performance
EverBlock® and EverPanel® systems are designed with safety, fire performance, and acoustic comfort in mind.
EverBlock® materials are made from stable household plastics that contain no harmful VOCs or outgassing, helping support healthier indoor spaces. The blocks are also rated UL 94HB, meaning they have a slow burn rate and are designed not to rapidly flare when exposed to open flame.
Beyond structural performance, EverBlocks® also provide natural sound-dampening benefits. Each block contains multiple hollow interior chambers that create layers of air space within the structure, helping reduce sound transfer compared to many standard temporary wall systems.
EverPanel® systems have also undergone fire and sound testing for commercial environments. FRP EverPanels® meet ASTM E-84 Class C fire-rating standards for flame spread and smoke development. Individual panels have undergone ASTM E90-09 sound transmission testing, and the layered panel construction and built-in air space help reduce airborne sound transfer and improve acoustic performance.
EverBlock® SoundSorb™ panels are specifically designed to improve acoustics in busy spaces. With NRC ratings up to 0.77, these panels help absorb sound, reduce echo, and improve speech clarity in open environments. They are also made from approximately 60% recycled PET plastic, supporting more sustainable building practices while maintaining long-term durability.
